Update #13 Quick progress report and pledge manager coming soon.
about 4 years ago – Mon, Feb 24, 2020 at 01:42:07 AM

Hi everyone,

Pledges and Pledge Manager

Kickstarter will be collecting the remaining pledges over the next week or so… there are about 5 pledges which haven’t come through. Please check your payment credentials are up to date in Kickstarter. Please drop us a line if you are having difficulties for whatever reason.

We've been busy loading up the pledge manager (backerkit) with add-ons from the campaign and my existing range.  Lots of Clovis, Geladan, Hyenamen, dragons and a couple of dwarves.  We are aiming to open the Pledge Manager in the next seven to ten days.

Masters

Update on the digital models and printed masters:

  • The digital models are now completed for the tokens and prepped for printing.
  • The Dust Devil model is also prepped for printing; the first prototype's (shown in the campaign) wing membranes were a little thin so I reworked those to be more robust.
  • The Geladan acrobatic archer is coming along nicely, but still has some refining before I’m happy with it to run a test print.
  • The Minotaur and Gnoll models and prints are fully completed already – you saw the painted prototypes in the campaign. I have two of these ready to go to molding.

There's a queue for the printers at the moment so we won't be printing them for a week or so, which gives me time to do the rest of the work on the Geladan.

Molds and Casting

USA – the digital files for the Minotaur and Gnoll have been sent to Zombiesmith and I’ll forward the other digital files as I complete them.

NZ and ROW – the Minotaur and Gnoll digital prints will be sent to the NZ and ROW mold maker, Dust Devil and Geladan will be sent when finished.

With the funds that we gained from this kickstarter we will be able to re-mold some of the range. My NZ Clovis molds are nearing the end of their production life and I’m keen to keep the quality as high as possible. I'm looking forward  to re-molding the armored Clovis heroes in particular as they are very popular.

Zombie Smith have fresh molds from my original masters (greens). I’ve just received these back from the U.S. so will get these to the NZ caster (Regal Toy Soldiers) See pic below.

So far so good. Will keep you posted.

My original sculpted masters to be molded again

Update# 12 - We did it!
about 4 years ago – Tue, Feb 18, 2020 at 01:48:35 AM

We did it! That really was great!

Thank you for all your support!

Your support means the Hero set, Dust Devil, Geladan Archer on warbeest and tokens will now be available to gamers and collectors.

Gary is now preparing final prints of the figures to send to our casters and master and production molds will be underway soon.

Pledge Manager

We plan to open the pledge manager in the next two weeks and will open this up to all backers (including the $1 no reward tier).

By popular request the pledge manager will include other figures from Gary's fantasy range as purchasable add-ons. This means you can take advantage of the single shipping fee and possibly unlock the various individual stretch goals based on your spend (see the main campaign page for these rewards).

We aim to have the pledge manager open for about 2 weeks in order to give the best opportunity of meeting our delivery schedule.

Free Clovis Totem

Because we are opening up the pledge manager to the 'no-reward' backers we need to clarify the totem stretch goal. The totem was a reward available to Hero tier only... but we will also give this to any 'no-reward' backers who order a physical item in the pledge manager.  Simply put - if we are posting you something, you will get the totem.

For those who pledged no-reward and do not wish to order any physical items we are very thankful for your show of support and the encouragement you have given. Thank you!

Thank you again!

Gary and JK.

Update #11... How to last minute pledge and Painting a Minotaur by Sloane Ranger studio
about 4 years ago – Sat, Feb 15, 2020 at 11:43:58 PM

There are still a fair few hours left but how can you pledge when the 100 spots are full?

There is a way.... you can add your amount (or $1) to the "No Reward" pledge. We can then open up the Pledge manager Backerkit to you all and you can purchase the Hero set and what you want through this method.

If there is an unforeseen hiccup you can pm me here or e-mail [email protected] or pm me on https://www.facebook.com/Gary.Hunt.Miniatures/ .

When the KS wraps there should be an option to add late pledges.

Once again, a big thanks to my backers and anyone that encouraged and helped me along the way. I'll be looking forward to sharing more mini sculpts with you in future Kickstarters. Cheers, Gary.

Now on to "How to paint a Minotaur" by Sloane Dougherty.

Sloane Dougherty is a very talented painter from Wellington and has done a stunning job on the 3d printed prototype of Troth, Clovis wildebeest.

Here's a segment from his post on FB.

"My friend Gary Hunt Miniatures is getting a Kickstarter sorted for his latest sculpts. He asked me to paint one and hoo boy they are sexy!!! This Minotaur was easily one of the nicest minis I’ve ever painted. The quality of the curves and edges, the movement in the pose, the badassness of the face. It’s amazing." https://www.facebook.com/SloaneRangerStudio/

Thanks Sloane that is praise indeed!

He's also provided us with some tips on how he painted Troth.

The Troth, Clovis wildebeest has easily been one of my favourite miniatures to paint. For my scheme I wanted a contrast between a very savage creature and some wargear that looked looted off much more sophisticated species.   So for the "beest" itself I stuck to very earthy tones. The skin is a rich brown, highlighted by adding ivory to the mix and building up thin coats to blend it. The fur used the same base brown but was highlighted by adding red and ivory to the mix.

The horns and hooves used the exact same brown, but was highlighted with yellows and ivory. This way we had a harmonious beestly body with enough variation it’s not totally boring!

To contrast this earthy beest, I painted the wargear very bright and saturated. The gold plate is begins with a dull dark brown and builds up through a lighter brown, an ochre then ivory white. The final step is a thin glaze of a very bright yellow over the whole piece.

The steel starts with a dark blue/grey. I build up through light greys then a bright white. I share back down with a blue/black when I want more contrast. I then glaze over selected mid tones with a turquoise. The trick with these metallic areas is using an irregular edge highlight, not a continuous line. Makes the edges seem jagged and not taken care of, perfect for a wildebeest!

Lastly I used a stark red cloth, highlighted with yellow and ivory. This looks like he’d ripped it off some unfortunate wealthy victim.   Hope you enjoyed this, and have fun painting your own!

Update #10 Rewards Continued...

Great News! As we count down the last couple of days we are able open up two additional individual rewards. These rewards are based on your individual spend at the close of the pledge manager, unlocking additional minis you will receive as part of your pledge.

#3 - Individual Reward - Free Figure - Spend Over NZ$200

Any backer who spends over NZ$200 (excluding shipping) will receive a single free random mini from the range. This will be a bit of a lucky dip and could be anything shown in the Kickstarter or backerkit (including a hero, warband figure or even a dragon). It will be at the sole discretion of our team.

Spend over NZ$200 (ex shipping) and receive 1 x random mini from the campaign.
  • You also still get the 6 tokens for the NZ$100 level.

Example pledge to achieve this: 1x Hero set (NZ$40), 2 x Warbands (NZ$136), 1 x Dragon (NZ$45) = NZ$221

Combined rewards you will receive. If you pledge $200.

#4 - Individual Reward - this is the big one - spend over NZ$300 and get a free Fire Drake kit (with wooden base)!
If you pledge over NZ$300 (excluding Shipping) you will receive a free Fire Drake with display base.
This amazing sculpt could be painted and used in your games, but some choose to simply have it on display. It looks fantastic with an ink-wash and mounted on its base (assembly required).

Spend over NZ$300 (ex shipping) and receive a free Fire Drake and wooden base.
  • You also still get the 6 tokens for the NZ$100 level.

  • You also still get the single free figure for the NZ$200 level.

Example pledge to achieve this: 1 x Hero set (NZ$40), 3 x Warbands (NZ$204), Dust Devil (NZ$13.50), 1 x Dragon (NZ$45) = NZ$302.50

Combined rewards you will receive If you pledge NZ$300

Note: spend totals are taken as the total you have spent at the close of the Pledge Manager (Backerkit). Early Bird will be rounded up to NZ$40 for the purposes of the spend level (i.e. we won't penalize you for being in early). The random mini will be random... (we'll think of some creative way to pull stuff from a hat or something). Some items require assembly.

Update #9 - Stretch Goals + Free rewards.
about 4 years ago – Wed, Feb 12, 2020 at 03:48:44 PM

Update # 9 - Rewards.

All rewards are now gone! We are so thankful for the support!

We want this to be a fantastic Kickstarter experience for you. Part of the reason we chose Make 100 was to enable the figures to find their way onto 100 shelves, tables and gaming rooms. We also want to foster the community and get feedback and comments from players and collectors.

This Kickstarter is about getting the figures produced, validating interest and bringing value to backers…

Your support flows beyond Gary to the full supply chain; including many small and medium businesses. It will mean molds are made, parcels packed and figures painted and played.   Naturally the more funds raised, the larger the range will grow, rules be refined, etc.

So..we want offer some rewards and incentives.

#1 - Campaign Stretch Goal - Free Clovis Totem @ NZ$7,000

If we fund over NZ$7,000 every Hero tier backer will receive a Clovis totem / pendant.

The pendant is good for a key ring but can also be used in the Beestwars game as a territory marker, totem or objective. Might even look good mounted on a staff leading a horde or warband into battle.

If we raise over NZ$7,000, each Hero tier backer will receive the Clovis Pendant. (leather lace not included)

#2 - Individual Reward - Free tokens - Spend over NZ$100
Any backer who spends a combined total of over NZ$100 (excluding shipping) will get a set of 6 tokens free (don’t worry, we will count early bird as NZ$40).

Individually pledge over NZ$200 (ex shipping) and receive a set of 6 Tokens free.

Example pledge to achieve this: 1 x Hero set (NZ$40), 1 x Warband (NZ$68) = NZ$108

More to come.....

#3 - Individual Reward - Soon to be revealed.

Note: free items will be calculated on your final total spend (excluding shipping) at the close of the pledge manager. Early Bird will be rounded up to NZ$40 for the purposes of the spend level (i.e. we wont penalize you for being in early). Some items require assembly.
